I’m a ceramic artist, specialising in hand building techniques, with a focus on the vessel form, texture, and surface decoration.
I studied ceramics under acclaimed tutors, including, Annie Turner, Robert Cooper and Sara Radstone, on the renowned City Lit Diploma course, in London, graduating in 2011.
My making is an impressionistic response to place and experience. Working from photographs, memory and observed detail. My current body of work is informed by the Icelandic landscape following recent visits. My sculptural vessels are constructed with finely rolled slabs of stoneware clay. Subtly manipulated walls form a canvas on which I apply layer upon layer of glaze, oxide, or stain, with a brush, so each piece is unique.
The porcelain paper clay Nail Vessels are part of my ongoing work.
My life long passion for clay began at school, aged thirteen, though it was many years before I realised my ambition to be a professional potter, following my first career at the BBC, producing programmes.
In 2014 I was selected for One Year On at New Designers, and I am an alumni of the, Arts Council funded, Crafts Council Hothouse programme. I have shown my work at prestigious London gallery, Flow, and had two solo shows at the internationally recognised New Craftsman Gallery, St Ives, with another planned for 2019.
I’m currently being mentored under the London Creative Network’s professional development programme delivered by Cockpit Arts, and I have recently showed my work at Ceramic Art London 2018, the country’s leading international contemporary ceramics event.
I have work in several private collections.
